TalentBoard is recruiting Behaviour Mentors to work in schools across Birkenhead and the Wirral. These roles are ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage behaviour, build confidence, and re-engage with learning.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll work closely with young people who may struggle with emotional regulation, social interaction, behaviour management or attendance. You’ll help pupils develop coping strategies, improve resilience and maintain positive behaviour in and out of the classroom. Support may involve 1:1 mentoring, small group work, de-escalation, classroom assistance or helping with structured behaviour interventions.

 

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve:

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Supporting young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour

  • Helping pupils stay focused, calm and engaged during lessons

  • Using de-escalation strategies and behaviour intervention techniques

  • Encouraging positive decision-making, confidence and self-esteem

  • Assisting teaching staff with behaviour plans and strategies

  • Promoting pupil welfare and following safeguarding procedures, reporting concerns to the DSL when needed

  • Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times


All successful applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS Check.

 

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome Behaviour Mentors with experience in roles such as:

  • Youth Work

  • SEMH Support

  • Care or Support Work

  • Coaching or Mentoring

  • Alternative Provision or PRU settings

  • Social Care

  • Volunteering with young people

Experience supporting young people with SEMH or those who can exhibit challenging behaviour is highly desirable. Patience, resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential.
