1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Primary School (Birkenhead - Wirral)
Support Two Wonderful Pupils With Individual Needs
TalentBoard is seeking a patient, nurturing and resilient 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support two pupils in a local primary school. Each child has unique strengths and challenges, and this role is ideal for someone who can provide calm, consistent guidance while building strong, positive relationships.

About the Role
You will provide individualised 1:1 support for two boys in Key Stage 1 and 2, ensuring they feel safe, regulated and supported throughout the school day.
Pupil 1 – Year 5 (ADHD, Behavioural Needs) - Supported in the AM
This pupil is bright, expressive and very vocal. He has a diagnosis of ADHD and can display challenging behaviour.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting him through high-energy and dysregulated periods, especially first thing in the morning
Responding calmly to provocative, insulting or offensive language
Preventing escalation when he seeks reactions from staff or peers
Managing potential conflict with other children, using de‑escalation strategies
Setting firm, consistent boundaries while remaining warm and supportive
Offering engagement and helping him transition into learning
This Child responds best to adults who are confident, emotionally resilient, and steady in their approach.
Pupil 2 – Year 2 (Sensory + Engagement Needs, KS1) - Supported in the PM
This pupil is gentle and affectionate but needs support with staying on track and completing his work.
Your support will involve:
Offering appropriate sensory comfort while maintaining clear boundaries
Encouraging focus, as he is prone to work avoidance and distraction
Providing gentle reminders, simple structure and consistent routine
Keeping him engaged and motivated through patient redirection
Promoting independence and confidence in small steps
He works extremely well with adults who are kind, predictable and softly encouraging.
What We’re Looking For

Care, residential support or social care
Mental health, counselling or wellbeing roles
Coaching or voluntary work with children or vulnerable groups

Skilled at managing challenging behaviour without reacting emotionally
Able to adapt your approach to two very different children
Warm, nurturing and able to build trust quickly
Passionate about helping children thrive through tailored support
An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) is essential.
