TalentBoard is looking for Behaviour Mentors to work within a number of inclusive and forward‑thinking primary and secondary schools across
Chester and surrounding areas.
If you’re passionate about helping children manage emotions, build confidence and re‑engage with learning, this could be the perfect opportunity. We welcome people with experience in youth work, mental health, SEN support, coaching, residential care, pastoral roles, or any setting where strong relationships and de‑escalation skills are essential.
⭐ Role Overview: What You’ll Do as a Behaviour Mentor
As a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll play a key role in supporting children who face social, emotional or behavioural barriers. Your work may include:
Offering 1:1 mentoring for pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, low confidence or classroom disengagement
Developing trusting, consistent relationships that help pupils feel safe and understood
Using restorative, trauma‑informed and de‑escalation strategies during moments of heightened emotion
Supporting personalised behaviour plans and helping pupils follow structured routines
Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, pastoral leads and external specialists
Guiding pupils to make positive choices, build resilience and strengthen emotional regulation skills
Assisting within the classroom and during unstructured times such as break and lunch
Encouraging goal-setting, celebrating achievements and modelling positive communication
Your support can be life‑changing for pupils who rely on stable, compassionate adults to help them succeed.

You don’t need previous school experience. We’re keen to hear from people with backgrounds in:
Youth work / mentoring
Mental health or wellbeing services
Care or residential support
Sports coaching or activity leadership
Community outreach or charity work
SEND or behaviour support
Security roles where calm de‑escalation is key
You’ll thrive in this role if you can show:
Strong communication and active listening
A calm, grounded approach in challenging moments
Patience, empathy and emotional resilience
Confidence working with children who may struggle with routines or relationships
A positive, restorative mindset
A genuine desire to help young people grow and feel valued
An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) is required.
