Chester and surrounding areas.

If you’re passionate about helping children manage emotions, build confidence and re‑engage with learning, this could be the perfect opportunity. We welcome people with experience in youth work, mental health, SEN support, coaching, residential care, pastoral roles, or any setting where strong relationships and de‑escalation skills are essential.

⭐ Role Overview: What You’ll Do as a Behaviour Mentor

As a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll play a key role in supporting children who face social, emotional or behavioural barriers. Your work may include:

  • Developing trusting, consistent relationships that help pupils feel safe and understood

  • Using restorative, trauma‑informed and de‑escalation strategies during moments of heightened emotion

  • Supporting personalised behaviour plans and helping pupils follow structured routines

  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, pastoral leads and external specialists

  • Guiding pupils to make positive choices, build resilience and strengthen emotional regulation skills

  • Assisting within the classroom and during unstructured times such as break and lunch

  • Encouraging goal-setting, celebrating achievements and modelling positive communication

Your support can be life‑changing for pupils who rely on stable, compassionate adults to help them succeed.

⭐ The Type of People We’re Looking For

You don’t need previous school experience. We’re keen to hear from people with backgrounds in:

  • Youth work / mentoring

  • Mental health or wellbeing services

  • Care or residential support

  • Sports coaching or activity leadership

  • Community outreach or charity work

  • SEND or behaviour support

  • Security roles where calm de‑escalation is key

You’ll thrive in this role if you can show:

  • Strong communication and active listening

  • A calm, grounded approach in challenging moments

  • Patience, empathy and emotional resilience

  • Confidence working with children who may struggle with routines or relationships

  • A positive, restorative mindset

  • A genuine desire to help young people grow and feel valued

An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) is required.

⭐ Why Join TalentBoard in Chester?

We work closely with schools across Hoole, Upton, Blacon, Handbridge, Vicars Cross, Boughton and surrounding Chester communities.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Competitive weekly PAYE pay

  • Flexible working arrangements built around your availability

  • Long‑term opportunities for consistent work

  • A dedicated consultant who understands SEMH and behaviour support

  • Free access to SEND & SEMH training to help you develop

  • Clear progression pathways into roles such as:

  • SEMH Teaching Assistant

  • Pastoral Support Officer
