TalentBoard is now recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants for a number of welcoming primary, secondary and specialist SEND schools across Chester and surrounding areas.

 

Whether you already have experience in SEND or you’re coming from a care, youth support, mental health or community‑based background, this is a fantastic opportunity to build a rewarding career supporting children who benefit enormously from patient, consistent adults.

 

What You’ll Be Doing as an SEN TA in Chester

 

You’ll be supporting pupils with a wide mix of needs, which may include:


  • Autism and social communication differences

  • Learning delay or global developmental delay

  • SEMH (social, emotional & mental health) needs

  • Sensory processing differences

  • Limited, delayed or non-verbal communication

  • Physical or mobility needs requiring adapted support

 

Your typical day could involve:


  • Providing tailored 1:1 support guided by the pupil’s EHCP

  • Assisting small groups with structured learning activities

  • Using visual aids, assistive communication tools and supportive teaching strategies

  • Helping pupils manage emotions through calm, nurturing approaches

  • Encouraging engagement in lessons, routines and social interactions

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral leads

  • Creating a predictable, safe and positive learning environment

 

This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a genuine impact and enjoys supporting young people who rely on strong, trusting relationships.

 

Who We’re Looking For

 

You do not need previous school experience — we welcome applicants from backgrounds such as:


  • Care or residential support

  • Mental health, wellbeing or therapy-related services

  • Youth work, mentoring or family support

  • Social care and community services

  • Sports coaching, outdoor education or activity leadership

  • Support roles with children or adults with additional needs

 

You’ll thrive in this role if you are:


  • Patient, warm and compassionate

  • Confident supporting communication, sensory or behavioural needs

  • Resilient and able to stay calm under pressure

  • Ready to learn and develop specialist SEN knowledge

  • Reliable, consistent and committed to helping children grow

  • Willing to complete an Enhanced DBS if required
