Birkenhead

Key Details

Full-time

Temporary

Pay:

£92.69 - £105 per day

TalentBoard is currently recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school on the Wirral seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist provision supporting Key Stage 1 pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping young children develop emotional regulation, communication skills and positive engagement with learning.

Rather than providing traditional classroom-based academic support, you will be based within a dedicated sensory and regulation space designed to support pupils who may occasionally require time away from their mainstream classroom. Children will access the provision throughout the school day as needed, receiving personalised support to help them regulate emotions, manage sensory needs and successfully return to class when ready.

The Role:

  • Support Key Stage 1 pupils with a range of SEND needs within a specialist sensory and regulation provision.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children to help them feel safe and supported.

  • Deliver sensory-based activities and interventions tailored to individual needs.

  • Support children in developing self-regulation, emotional literacy and communication skills.

  • Work closely with teaching staff and SEND professionals to ensure consistent support strategies.

  • Monitor pupil wellbeing and engagement throughout the school day.

  • Promote positive behaviour through nurturing and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Encourage independence, confidence and resilience in a supportive environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children with SEND, particularly within primary education.

  • Understand sensory processing needs and strategies that support emotional regulation.

  • Be calm, patient and able to respond effectively to children's changing needs.

  • Have experience supporting children with communication, social and emotional needs.

  • Be able to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.

  • Hold relevant childcare, education or SEND qualifications (desirable but not essential).

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity to work within a supportive and inclusive school environment.

  • Ongoing support from TalentBoard.

  • Competitive rates of pay.

  • Potential for long-term and permanent opportunities.

All applicants will be subject to enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks in line with safer recruitment procedures.
