Teaching Assistant – SEMH Support | Wirral SEND and Mainstream Schools
TalentBoard is looking for dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistants to join specialist SEND and mainstream primary and secondary schools across the Wirral. This role focuses on supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them thrive in a safe and inclusive learning environment.
If you have experience working with individuals who face emotional or behavioural challenges—whether in education, care, youth work, sports coaching, nursing or support services—we’d love to hear from you! Previous experience in SEMH or specialist settings is an advantage but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Assist teachers in creating a positive, structured classroom environment.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Support pupils in developing resilience, emotional regulation, and social skills.
- Maintain safeguarding and child protection standards at all times.
Requirements
- Experience supporting children, young people, or adults with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to challenges.
- Relevant SEND or SEMH training (desirable but not essential).
- Enhanced DBS check required (we can assist with this).
