TalentBoard is looking for dedicated Behaviour Mentors to work with a number of nurturing and inclusive primary and secondary schools across the Wirral.
This role is perfect for individuals who stay calm under pressure, enjoy building relationships, and are passionate about helping pupils overcome emotional or behavioural barriers. Whether your experience comes from youth work, mental health support, sports coaching, care settings or community roles, your skills could make a real impact in Wirral schools.
What you’ll be doing
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will help pupils develop confidence, emotional regulation and positive behaviour habits. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities may include:
- Providing tailored 1:1 support for pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, low confidence or behavioural challenges
- Building strong, trusting relationships that help pupils feel secure and supported
- Using calm, trauma‑informed strategies to navigate difficult moments and de‑escalate situations
- Working with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to follow behaviour plans and support approaches
- Encouraging positive choices, resilience and independent problem‑solving
- Supporting behaviour both in the classroom and in less‑structured environments such as playgrounds or intervention rooms
- Helping pupils identify goals and celebrating progress, no matter how small
Who we’re looking for
You do not need direct school experience to apply. We welcome people from backgrounds such as:
- Youth work / mentoring
- Mental health or wellbeing support
- Care or residential settings
- Sports coaching
- Community or outreach work
- SEN or behaviour support
- Security roles involving de‑escalation
We are looking for individuals who can show:
- Strong communication and empathy
- Patience and resilience during challenging moments
- A restorative, relationship‑focused approach
- Confidence working with pupils who may be disengaged, frustrated or emotionally overwhelmed
- A genuine desire to help young people succeed
- An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
