Pastoral Support Worker – Chester | Full-Time Role Supporting Pupil Wellbeing

Are you passionate about helping children and young people feel safe, supported and emotionally secure in school? TalentBoard is looking to appoint a Pastoral Support Worker to work across a number of Chester primary and secondary schools, providing vital emotional and behavioural support to pupils who need an additional trusted adult.

This is a full-time, rewarding position working directly with pupils who may be experiencing challenges linked to behaviour, self-esteem, attendance, social skills, anxiety or wider SEMH needs. Your presence and guidance will play a key role in helping pupils feel understood, regulate their emotions and re-engage positively with school life.

About the Role

As a Pastoral Support Worker in Chester, you will be a core part of each school’s pastoral, safeguarding and SEN teams, offering targeted support to pupils who need additional emotional guidance. Your daily responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 pastoral sessions, check-ins and mentoring

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, social difficulties or low confidence

  • Building consistent, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people

  • Helping pupils understand and manage their behaviour

  • Promoting emotional regulation and resilience

  • Liaising with teachers, SENCOs, safeguarding leads and attendance teams

  • Supporting restorative conversations and social problem-solving

  • Recording concerns and following safeguarding procedures

This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a genuine impact on pupil wellbeing and help young people thrive both emotionally and academically.

An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply) is required.

  • Confident in de‑escalation and positive behaviour approaches

  • Skilled at building rapport with pupils who may find school challenging
