⭐ About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Chester, you will play a vital part in supporting pupils with a range of needs, including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning delays, SEMH requirements, sensory needs and more. Your role will involve:
Providing 1:1 tailored support and small‑group intervention to help pupils access learning.
Assisting with personalised learning plans and adapting classroom activities to suit individual needs.
Implementing strategies recommended by SENCOs, therapists and class teachers.
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, social skills and confidence building.
Creating a calm, structured and encouraging learning environment that celebrates progress.
Using positive behaviour approaches that promote safety, wellbeing and independence.
Ensuring that all safeguarding procedures are followed consistently.
⭐ What We’re Looking For
We welcome compassionate, resilient and motivated candidates with a passion for SEN support. Ideally, you will have:
Experience supporting children with SEN or additional learning needs in a school, care or youth setting.
A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust and meaningful relationships.
Understanding of SEN strategies, de‑escalation approaches and differentiated learning.
The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt quickly to the needs of individual pupils.
Confidence working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and wider pastoral teams.
An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
A background in care, behaviour support, social work, youth work or coaching is highly valued and often very transferable.
