SEND Teaching Assistant – Wirral

TalentBoard is working in partnership with schools across the Wirral to recruit caring and committed SEND Teaching Assistants who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
This role is ideal for individuals seeking flexible supply work, with opportunities ranging from short‑term cover to long‑term placements, available on a part‑time or full‑time basis.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils access education, feel supported, and reach their potential. You may work in mainstream schools, specialist SEND provisions, or alternative settings, supporting children with a wide range of additional needs.
Your responsibilities may include:
Supporting pupils with SEND on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
Assisting teachers to deliver adapted and inclusive lessons
Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour
Supporting emotional, sensory and social development
Helping to prepare learning resources and maintain a structured classroom
Assisting with personal care where required, always with dignity and respect
Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs and support professionals
Following safeguarding policies and promoting pupil wellbeing at all times
About You
We welcome applications from individuals with a genuine interest in SEND and child development. You may have experience in education, or come from a related background.
We’re particularly keen to hear from candidates who have:
Experience supporting children or young people (in education, care or community settings)
An understanding of SEND, additional needs or inclusive practices (desirable, not essential)
A patient, calm and compassionate approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A commitment to helping children feel safe, valued and supported
Applicants with backgrounds in care, support work, youth work, nursing, or personal experience with SEND are strongly encouraged to apply.
An Enhanced DBS check is required (or willingness to undergo one).
