SEN Teaching Assistant – Ellesmere Port

TalentBoard is partnering with a growing number of primary, secondary and specialist SEND schools in Ellesmere Port, and we’re now looking for committed, compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistants to join our expanding team. If you’re passionate about supporting children with additional needs — and you’re looking for flexible supply work, long‑term opportunities or the chance to build meaningful SEND experience — we have a variety of roles available across Ellesmere Port, Great Sutton, Whitby, Little Sutton and the surrounding areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to make a positive difference to children who require additional emotional, behavioural or learning support.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering 1:1 or small‑group support for pupils with a range of SEND needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, and global developmental delay.

  • Assisting teachers with tailored learning activities that help pupils access the curriculum at their own pace.

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and using appropriate regulation or de‑escalation strategies when needed.

  • Helping to create a predictable, nurturing learning environment that supports sensory, emotional and behavioural needs.

  • Supporting pupils with personal care or mobility needs where appropriate, ensuring dignity and comfort at all times.

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, parents and external professionals to maintain consistent support.

  • Assisting with visual aids, classroom organisation and adapted resources to promote an inclusive setting.

  • Prioritising pupil safety and wellbeing, following safeguarding expectations at all times.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting children or young people is helpful — but we also welcome applicants from care, youth work, social care, health care or support work backgrounds.

  • Understanding of SEND approaches such as visual supports, sensory strategies or assistive communication methods is beneficial (full training can be provided).

  • A calm, patient manner and the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils who may find school challenging.

  • Reliable teamwork skills and the confidence to use initiative when supporting pupils’ needs.

  • Genuine enthusiasm for helping children grow in confidence, independence and emotional resilience.

  • An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).

Why work with TalentBoard in Ellesmere Port?

  • Flexible roles that fit around your lifestyle.

  • Opportunities in mainstream primary and secondary schools, specialist SEND settings and alternative provisions.

  • Support from consultants who understand SEND and prioritise your wellbeing.

  • A brilliant pathway into careers such as education, psychology, SEN specialism, support work or teaching.

  • Competitive weekly pay and opportunities to gain varied experience across different school environments.

If you’re ready to make a genuine difference to children with additional needs in Ellesmere Port, we’d love to hear from you.
